Robbie Williams has responded with humor after a clip from his post–World Cup final interview sparked widespread online speculation.

The British singer went viral after viewers noticed a small white object fall from his mouth onto his bright pink microphone during an interview with Germany's Magenta TV following Sunday's final at MetLife Stadium. Williams calmly picked it up and placed it on his forehead, prompting social media users to debate what the object might have been.

On Monday, Williams addressed the rumors in a tongue-in-cheek Instagram video.

“I’d just like to apologize for the object that fell onto the microphone yesterday,” he said with a serious expression before breaking into a smile. “Because I had several more too,” he joked, opening his mouth to reveal two breath mints on his tongue.

According to a source quoted by The Sun, the object was a Nicorette mint. The source said Williams was surprised by the online reaction after waking up to messages from friends and fans.

Many fans also pointed out that Williams has been sober for more than 20 years, making speculation about illicit substances unfounded. The singer has spoken openly about his past struggles with addiction and his recovery, most recently in a new Take That documentary.

Williams performed at the 2026 FIFA World Cup final alongside Nicole Scherzinger and Laura Pausini, with the trio singing their collaboration, “Desire,” before Spain's victory over Argentina.
