Tom Holland begins training for Fred Astaire biopic

Tom Holland says he has started rehearsals for his upcoming role as legendary dancer Fred Astaire after finishing promotional tours for The Odyssey and Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

Speaking on Good Morning America, Holland said his first dance rehearsals left him both excited and nervous. He said he plans to perform all of Astaire's dance routines himself, without using doubles, and hopes to film the numbers in single takes to match Astaire's style.

Holland later told Live With Kelly and Mark that the role marks the start of a new stage in his career. After the release of two major films within weeks of each other, he said he is looking for more challenging and mature roles.

The actor, who first gained recognition in the West End production of Billy Elliot the Musical, said he regretted giving up dancing after leaving the show. Preparing for the Astaire film has brought him back to the same London dance studio where he trained as a child.

Holland said he is eager to take on the demanding role, even though he knows he has a great deal of work ahead.
