The 43-year-old actor told Variety that he has spent the past year working on projects almost continuously, including The Magic Faraway Tree, The Uprising and Artificial. While he wants audiences to see his films, he said he would prefer not to spend so much time promoting them.
“If I had my druthers, people would just see them, and I could go whittle wood in the Somerset countryside,” Garfield said.
The actor said his priorities have also changed. Rather than focusing mainly on career achievements, he now wants a better quality of life, stronger relationships with family and friends, and a healthier relationship with himself.
Garfield has taken breaks from acting before. In 2022, after several major projects, he said he needed time to “just be a bit of a person” and step away from the pressures of awards season. He returned to leading roles with 2024’s We Live in Time.
His latest film, The Magic Faraway Tree, is now in theaters.
