Audrey Hepburn’s Sons Share Thoughts on Lily Collins and Other Actresses Portraying Their Mother

Audrey Hepburn’s sons, Sean Hepburn Ferrer and Luca Dotti, have shared their thoughts on actresses taking on the role of their famous mother in upcoming projects.

Ferrer told PEOPLE that he has had positive experiences with actresses who have portrayed Hepburn. He praised Lily Collins, who will play Hepburn in an upcoming film about the making of Breakfast at Tiffany’s. “Lily is something special,” he said.

The project, announced in February 2026, is being developed by screenwriter and producer Alena Smith and is based on Sam Wasson’s book Fifth Avenue, 5 A.M. Ferrer said he has spoken with Collins and offered her suggestions about the role, though he admitted he finds the film’s focus on the making of Breakfast at Tiffany’s difficult to fully understand.

Ferrer also praised Natalie Portman and Rooney Mara, who have previously portrayed Hepburn in screen projects. He said he is curious about another upcoming film, Dinner with Audrey, starring Thomasin McKenzie as Hepburn and Ansel Elgort as designer Hubert de Givenchy.

Ferrer described his mother’s relationship with Givenchy as deeply affectionate, saying they “loved each other from afar while standing next to each other.” He recalled that Hepburn considered Givenchy the definition of a “gentleman.”

Dotti said he is also interested in seeing the new projects. He noted that Collins has long been viewed as a possible successor to Hepburn because of her appearance, talent and connection to fashion.

Collins said in February that she had been involved with the Breakfast at Tiffany’s project for nearly 10 years and expressed her admiration for Hepburn. “Honored and ecstatic don’t begin to express how I feel,” she wrote on Instagram.
