Chris Evans Teases Brutal Steve Rogers Return in Avengers: Doomsday

Chris Evans has teased a tough return for Steve Rogers in Marvel’s upcoming Avengers: Doomsday.

According to Complex Pop Culture, Evans said directors Joe and Anthony Russo will once again push Steve to his physical and emotional limits. The actor suggested that Steve will face something “brutal” and will be beaten up badly in the film.

Evans said the Russos have always enjoyed putting Steve through intense challenges to test his strength, beliefs and commitment to justice. He added that the new film will continue that approach, giving audiences a closer look at the character’s values.

The comments also offer clues about why Evans appears as a younger Steve in the film’s trailer. At the end of Avengers: Endgame, Steve returned the Infinity Stones, lived a life in the past and later passed his shield to Sam Wilson, who became the new Captain America. His appearance in Doomsday therefore raised questions about whether he would be seen only in flashbacks.

Evans’ comments suggest that the younger Steve could have a significant role in the film’s present-day story.

Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to hit theaters on December 18, 2026, with select theaters showing it on December 17.
