Bella Thorne to Write and Direct ‘Spring Breakers 2’

Bella Thorne has revealed that she will write and direct Spring Breakers 2, taking over directing duties after producers were impressed by an early cut of her upcoming directorial debut, Color Your Hurt. Speaking on Alex Cooper’s Call Her Daddy podcast, Thorne said the producers asked her to pitch a script, which ultimately led to her helming the sequel.

The follow-up to Harmony Korine’s 2012 cult classic stars Grace Van Dien, Ariel Martin and True Whitaker. While original producers Chris Hanley and Jordan Gertner are returning, Korine is not involved and has previously said he has no interest in the sequel.

Thorne said the new film will reflect a different era than the original, promising a high-energy, fun-filled experience rather than revisiting the themes that surrounded the first movie’s release. Teasing the project, she described it as “lit from start to finish” and said audiences looking for an entertaining theatrical experience “are going to have fun with this movie.”
