Kathryn Newton Hopeful for ‘Big Little Lies’ Season 3

Kathryn Newton says she is optimistic that Big Little Lies will return for a third season.

Speaking to PEOPLE at the premiere of her new Prime Video film The Devil’s Mouth on July 28, Newton said she is "really, really, really, really hopeful" that another season will happen. "I think good things about Big Little Lies season 3," she said, adding that she would "love that for all of us."

Newton played Abigail Carlson, the daughter of Reese Witherspoon’s character, Madeline Mackenzie, in the HBO drama. The series premiered in 2017 and returned for a second season in 2019, with Meryl Streep joining the cast. It also starred Nicole Kidman, Laura Dern, Shailene Woodley and Zoë Kravitz.

Earlier this year, Reese Witherspoon confirmed that season 3 is "in process" during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. In April, series creator David E. Kelley also said the team was "getting the band back together," although he did not reveal further details.

Newton also praised Witherspoon’s new Legally Blonde prequel series, Elle, saying she was impressed by the way Witherspoon has brought the character back for a new generation of fans.

Newton’s latest film, The Devil’s Mouth, is now streaming on Prime Video.
