Owen Thiele Says His Mom Keeps Him Humble by Texting Embarrassing Photos

Actor and podcaster Owen Thiele says his mom has a funny way of keeping him grounded as his career grows.

Speaking at Teen Vogue Fest in Brooklyn on July 25, the 29-year-old told People that his mother, Amy Kanter, regularly sends him unflattering photos of himself. Thiele joked that the pictures stop him from getting an ego.

Thiele's career has expanded quickly in recent years. After early roles in shows including Hacks and Dollface, he now stars in Adults and Benito Skinner's Overcompensating. He also launched the podcast In Your Dreams in 2024 through Alex Cooper's Unwell Network.

The actor is developing Off Color, a semi-autobiographical comedy series with Ilana Glazer. Susie Essman is attached to play his mother, while the project is being developed with Amazon. Thiele said writing about his own life has been challenging and feels like therapy.

He also confirmed he has joined the cast of the upcoming 13 Going on 30 reboot alongside Jessica Alba, Logan Lerman and Emily Bader. While he did not reveal details about his role, he praised the cast and director Brett Haley.

Thiele's series Adults returns for its second season on Hulu on August 27.
