Harrison Ford Returns as Indiana Jones for New Disney Attraction

Harrison Ford is not ready to put Indiana Jones behind him just yet.

The 84-year-old actor is set to reprise his iconic role in Disney’s upcoming attraction, “Indiana Jones and the Myth of the Jade Serpent,” at Walt Disney World’s Animal Kingdom.

Ford announced the news in a prerecorded message shown at Disney’s D23 fan event.

“Soon it’ll be time for his next ride,” Ford said, adding that he is “pleased to share that, for the first time ever,” he is the model being used for the Indiana Jones animatronic. He also joked that the character will even have “fear of snakes included.”

“I’m excited for you to see his next epic adventure, and I’m coming to Walt Disney World soon,” Ford said.

The announcement quickly sparked excitement among Indiana Jones fans on social media. Many praised Disney for using Ford’s likeness and celebrated the chance to see the actor’s version of Indy continue beyond the movies.

Ford has played Indiana Jones in five films over more than four decades. He first appeared as the adventurous archaeologist in 1981’s “Raiders of the Lost Ark,” directed by Steven Spielberg.

He returned for “Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom” in 1984, “Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade” in 1989, and “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull” in 2008. His most recent appearance came in 2023’s “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny,” directed by James Mangold.

The Indiana Jones franchise has earned more than $2.3 billion worldwide, according to The Numbers. However, “Dial of Destiny” struggled at the box office and became a major financial disappointment for Disney.

Ford’s return to the character comes as the actor continues to show that retirement is not on his immediate plans. At the 2026 SAG Awards in March, he received the Life Achievement Award in recognition of his seven decades in Hollywood.

During his acceptance speech, Ford joked that receiving a lifetime achievement award felt premature because he was only at “the halfway point” of his career.

“I’m still a working actor,” he said.

Ford also reflected on the long road that led to his success, explaining that he was “not an overnight success” and struggled for about 15 years before landing a role in a hugely successful movie.

In addition to Indiana Jones, Ford is famous for playing Han Solo in the “Star Wars” franchise. With his latest Disney attraction, his most recognizable archaeological adventurer is getting another chapter—and this time, fans will be able to experience Indy in a completely new way.
