Jamie Foxx Credits Daughter Corinne With Saving His Life After 2023 Stroke

Jamie Foxx says his daughter, Corinne Foxx, played a critical role in saving his life after he suffered a stroke in 2023.

During an Aug. 25 appearance on Keke Palmer’s podcast, “Baby, This Is Keke Palmer,” Foxx recalled speaking with the doctor who treated him after the medical emergency. According to Foxx, the doctor told him, “Without her you wouldn’t be here.”

Foxx said the doctor repeatedly credited Corinne with helping him survive. “Your daughter saved your life,” Foxx recalled the doctor telling him.

Corinne, Foxx’s eldest daughter, said she immediately went into “caretaking mode” when her father became seriously ill. She said she did not have time to be afraid and focused on making sure he received the care he needed.

The family also faced intense online speculation about Foxx’s condition while he was hospitalized in Atlanta. Rumors included conspiracy theories claiming he had been cloned. Corinne said the situation was difficult, but she refused to reveal her father’s private medical information just to stop the rumors.

Foxx has previously said that he remembers little about the medical emergency and recovery. He later returned to the hospital and met the nurses who had cared for him. He recalled them calling him a “miracle” and saying that very few patients with his condition survived.

During his recovery, Foxx said comedy helped him cope. He often joked with medical staff and sometimes pretended to be celebrities such as Denzel Washington and Dave Chappelle when asked who he was.

Reflecting on the experience, Foxx said it changed how he viewed his daughter and the strength of her support. “We should all have a Corinne Marie Foxx,” he said.

Foxx, 58, continues to work on several film projects, including Netflix’s boxing drama “Fight for ’84” and the action film “Deadlocked.”
