Joan Jett Cancels September Shows After Surgery for Fractured Vertebra

Rock icon Joan Jett is stepping away from the stage temporarily after undergoing orthopedic surgery for a fractured vertebra, according to a statement shared on her Instagram Stories on Aug. 5.

Following medical advice, the 67-year-old singer will miss two scheduled performances next month: Sept. 5 at the Pacific Amphitheatre in Costa Mesa, California, and Sept. 24 at the Bourbon & Beyond Music Festival in Louisville, Kentucky. She will instead focus on recovery, physical therapy, and healing.

"While Joan hates to disappoint fans, she will be taking this time to focus on physical therapy and healing," the statement said, adding that she looks forward to returning to the stage for many years to come.

The Pacific Amphitheatre confirmed that Cheap Trick will replace Jett on the Sept. 5 lineup, with X remaining as the opening act. Existing tickets will remain valid, while refunds are available through the original point of purchase. Bourbon & Beyond organizers have not yet announced plans for Jett's scheduled appearance.

Known as the "Queen of Rock and Roll," Jett rose to fame with The Runaways before achieving solo success and later forming Joan Jett and the Blackhearts. Her most recent Instagram post, shared on Aug. 3, celebrated the band's European tour and expressed her excitement about returning to Europe.

Jett currently has no upcoming live performances listed as she begins her recovery.
