Lori Petty reflects on Point Break ahead of 35th anniversary re-release

Lori Petty has shared memories of making Point Break as the 1991 action classic returns to theaters for its 35th anniversary.

Speaking to PEOPLE, Petty said filming the movie with Keanu Reeves and Patrick Swayze was "a dream" and described the set as fun and drama-free. She joked that it was easy to play a character in love with Reeves and Swayze, calling the experience "a blast."

Petty also remembered Swayze's adventurous spirit, saying he often went skydiving before work despite the studio's concerns. She said he loved pushing himself physically and even performed ballet moves while skydiving. She described him as kind, energetic, and always in good spirits.

The cast spent long days surfing and training in Hawaii, where Petty said they enjoyed beautiful sunrises and sunsets. Looking back, she said she felt grateful to recognize how fortunate she was during the filming.

Petty added that the cast never expected Point Break to become a cult classic. Directed by Kathryn Bigelow, the film follows undercover FBI agent Johnny Utah as he infiltrates a gang of surfers who rob banks.

To celebrate its 35th anniversary, Point Break will return to theaters on Aug. 16 and 19 in a new 4K restoration.
