Madelyn Cline Says Madrid Police Mistook Her for Brothel Madam While Filming Movie

Madelyn Cline says police in Madrid repeatedly came to her apartment while she was filming the upcoming movie Day Drinker, believing she was involved in a local sex ring.

Cline shared the story on the Aug. 13 episode of Jake Shane’s Therapuss podcast. She said officers repeatedly took her passport and personal information while speaking to her in Spanish, leaving her unsure why she was being questioned.

Cline said she later told co-star Penélope Cruz about the situation. Cruz, who had previously lived in the same area, learned from an old neighbor that police had traced a local crime ring to Cline’s apartment building.

According to Cline, police believed she was leading the operation and thought she was the “madam” of the ring. She said she had no connection to the crime and joked that she had been an “accidentally elected” leader.

Cline is currently filming Day Drinker, a thriller starring her alongside Johnny Depp and Cruz. The film follows a private-yacht bartender who becomes involved with a mysterious passenger and a criminal figure. It is scheduled for release next March.
