Michelle Pfeiffer Is Not Retiring From Movies Anytime Soon

Michelle Pfeiffer has cleared up recent comments that suggested she was ready to retire from the big screen.

During an appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, the three-time Oscar nominee laughed off reports that she was stepping away from movies.

“No... I mean, it’s the most ridiculous thing,” Pfeiffer said when Fallon asked about the retirement rumors.

Earlier this month, Pfeiffer had sparked speculation about her future when she said she did not want to star in another movie. Speaking at The Hollywood Reporter and Apple TV’s Leading the Narrative: The Women of Apple TV event, she said, “I never want to star in another movie, I swear to God. I only want to do ensemble pieces. It’s so much more fun, I love it so much.”

Pfeiffer explained to Fallon that her comments had been taken out of context. She made it clear that she is still interested in leading a movie if the right project comes along.

“Of course, I want to star in another movie,” she said.

The clarification will likely please Pfeiffer’s longtime fans. The actress has built an acclaimed career spanning several decades, with memorable roles in films including Scarface, Dangerous Liaisons, Married to the Mob, Batman Returns, The Age of Innocence, Hairspray and the Ant-Man films.

In recent years, Pfeiffer has also found success on television. Her performances in The Madison and Margo’s Got Money Troubles have allowed her to explore longer-form storytelling and work closely with large ensembles. Her role in Margo’s Got Money Troubles earned her an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series.

Pfeiffer has said she particularly enjoys television because it gives actors more time to develop their characters. Reflecting on The Madison, in which she plays grieving mother and widow Stacy Clyburn, she said the extended format allows her to explore a character more deeply.

“It’s wonderful to be able to live with a character for such an extended period of time and you can really just go deeper and find all of the different layers,” she said.

For Pfeiffer, however, the biggest appeal is also the opportunity to work with other talented actors.

“But it’s also really wonderful and most important to me that I get to work with all of this talent,” she added.

While Pfeiffer may prefer ensemble projects at this stage of her career, her latest comments make one thing clear: she has no plans to say goodbye to movies just yet.
