Nicole Kidman Reflects on Her Young Marriage to Tom Cruise: ‘We Fell Madly in Love’

Nicole Kidman has opened up about her marriage to Tom Cruise, describing their relationship as a “completely natural” part of her life.

In a new British Vogue interview, the Oscar-winning actress recalled marrying Cruise on Christmas Eve in 1990, when she was 23. She said they “fell madly in love” and that marriage felt like the natural choice at the time.

Kidman said people warned her that marrying such a famous actor could hurt her career. She said she did not care because she was in love and wanted to be married.

The couple met while filming Days of Thunder and remained married for more than a decade. They later starred together in Far and Away and Eyes Wide Shut. Their divorce was finalized in August 2001. They adopted two children, Bella and Connor.

Looking back, Kidman has said that she was very young when she married Cruise and needed time to grow up after their divorce. She later married singer Keith Urban in 2006, and the couple announced their separation in 2025.
