Phil Collins Reveals He Was on the Brink of Death During Hospital Stay

Phil Collins has revealed that he came close to dying after being hospitalized with severe complications related to alcohol use.

Speaking to The Sunday Times, the 75-year-old singer said he was unconscious in a Swiss hospital in 2024 when his organs began to fail. His longtime manager called his five children to his bedside as doctors considered whether to keep him on life support.

"My kidneys were packing up, my organs were just seizing up," Collins said. "People were coming to say goodbye." He added that he has no memory of the visits and only later learned how serious his condition had become.

After spending months in the hospital, Collins recovered and said he has not had a drink since. He described reuniting with his family later that year as an emotional and unforgettable experience, recalling that his daughter Lily told him she never expected to have those moments with him again.

Collins has previously spoken about his struggles with alcohol, linking them to personal challenges and chronic pain. He also continues to manage several health conditions, including nerve damage, knee problems, kidney issues and type 2 diabetes, which contributed to his retirement from performing after Genesis' farewell tour in 2022.
