Former Child Actress Raquel Lee Sues Disney, Alleges Sexual Abuse During 2001 Film Production

Former child actress Raquel Lee has sued Disney, alleging that a male employee repeatedly raped and sexually assaulted her while she was 14 and working on the 2001 Disney Channel movie The Poof Point.

According to the lawsuit, the employee allegedly groomed Lee and assaulted her several times in a hotel room in Salt Lake City, where the cast and crew were staying. She also alleges that he assaulted her on a flight to Los Angeles. The complaint says he regularly made sexually explicit comments to her, whispered inappropriate remarks in her ear and used hugs to get physically close to her.

Lee’s lawsuit claims the behavior occurred openly on set, where cast and crew members, including sound technicians, could hear or see it. She alleges that Disney employees failed to intervene. The complaint also says Lee was often separated from her on-set guardian.

Lee says her performance and behavior changed after the alleged abuse. Rather than recognizing signs of trauma, she claims Disney executives criticized her and accused her of being disruptive and engaging in sexual activity with a crew member. She says Disney later canceled a planned role for her.

The lawsuit accuses Disney of negligence and argues that her experience was part of a broader history of alleged misconduct involving the company. Disney has declined to comment.

Lee is represented by attorney Doug Wigdor, who has represented several high-profile clients in sexual misconduct cases, including Cassie Ventura and women who accused Harvey Weinstein.

Lee later became known for her voice work on The Proud Family and appeared in its Disney+ revival. In 2024, she also appeared in the docuseries Quiet on Set, where she discussed her experiences as a Black child performer on Nickelodeon’s The Amanda Show. She has said that hearing another actor discuss childhood sexual abuse in the series was retraumatizing for her.
