Romy and Michele Reunite for Sequel 30 Years After Original Film


Lisa Kudrow and Mira Sorvino are returning as Romy and Michele for a sequel to the 1997 comedy “Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion.”

The actresses announced the project at D23, appearing in character. The new film follows the best friends as they attend a former classmate’s wedding and realize they may have focused so much on their careers that they forgot to find love.

Romy and Michele still run their fashion boutique in Beverly Hills, which they opened with money borrowed from Sandy Frink, played by Alan Cumming. They have now paid off the debt. Sandy remains part of their lives, but Michele will begin a romance with a character played by Keegan-Michael Key, while Romy will date a character played by Rob Huebel.

The sequel will also feature new cast members Wendi McLendon-Covey, Patrick Warburton and Breckin Meyer. Returning actors include Janeane Garofalo, Camryn Manheim and Julia Campbell.

Costume designer Mona May is also returning, bringing a modern take on the duo’s colorful 1990s-inspired style. Kudrow and Sorvino have teased a new dance sequence inspired by their famous Cyndi Lauper performance.

“Romy and Michele 2” is currently filming.
