Stephen Baldwin Says Faith, Not Fame, Shaped His Career After Hollywood Success

Stephen Baldwin says he deliberately stepped away from pursuing A-list Hollywood stardom, choosing faith and ministry over mainstream success after his breakout roles in the 1990s.

In an interview with People, the 60-year-old actor reflected on the success of The Usual Suspects (1995), saying he never wanted the pressure of becoming a major box office star. He also defended the cult comedy Bio-Dome, despite recalling that his brother Alec Baldwin warned the film could damage his career.

Baldwin said his priorities changed after he became a born-again Christian in 2001. Inspired by evangelical events and a Christian skateboarding ministry, he left Hollywood to launch Livin It, a faith-based skateboarding outreach that toured churches across the United States.

Now a grandfather to Hailey Bieber's son Jack and Alaia Baldwin Aronow's daughter Iris, Baldwin says he remains focused on his Christian faith and family. He acknowledged past legal and personal challenges, including a 2013 tax-related misdemeanor conviction, and said Hollywood has not always embraced his outspoken religious and political views.

Baldwin is currently producing Christian films aimed at younger audiences and hosts the podcast One Bad Movie, where actors discuss difficult filmmaking experiences. He says his goal is to create faith-based stories that connect with audiences, adding that he is content with his life and believes "the best is yet to come."
