Wendy Williams Says “I Want Out” as Guardianship Battle Continues

Wendy Williams is publicly calling for an end to the court-ordered guardianship that has controlled parts of her life since 2022.

The former talk show host was seen in New York City on Wednesday, her first reported public appearance since February. When a photographer asked what she wanted fans to know about what she is going through, Williams, 62, replied, “I want out!”

Williams was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia and aphasia in 2023 after experiencing problems with language and behavior. However, doctors later questioned the dementia diagnosis after additional testing, according to reports.

Williams was placed under a New York guardianship in May 2022 after Wells Fargo raised concerns about her ability to manage her finances. Attorney Sabrina Morrissey was appointed as her legal guardian. Williams has repeatedly opposed the arrangement and has sought to regain control of her finances and personal affairs.

Her former husband, Kevin Hunter, filed a $250 million lawsuit in 2025 seeking to end the guardianship. He alleged that Williams was being abused, neglected and financially exploited. Morrissey’s attorney denied or disputed several of those claims, calling them inaccurate or misleading.

Williams has continued to speak publicly about her situation. In March 2025, she reportedly held a note to a window at her assisted living facility that said, “Help! Wendy!!”

Her attorney, Joe Tacopina, also sought to end the guardianship after doctors questioned her dementia diagnosis, but the effort was unsuccessful.

Williams’ latest public appearance suggests that her fight over the guardianship remains unresolved.
