Zendaya's fashion choices during the Spider-Man: Brand New Day press tour fueled widespread fan speculation that her character, MJ, would die or transform into Venom in the new film. Fans pointed to her predominantly black outfits, interpreting them as a form of "method dressing" that hinted at the character's fate.

The theories gained momentum after stylist Law Roach described one of Zendaya's premiere looks as representing the "metamorphosis of this woman into this thing," while some also linked the speculation to Marvel's All-New Venom comics, in which MJ becomes Venom's host.

However, with Spider-Man: Brand New Day now in theaters, the rumors have been proven false. MJ neither dies nor becomes Venom in the film.

Zendaya never confirmed the fan theories during the promotional campaign, instead encouraging audiences to watch the movie. She said the team enjoys extending the film's storytelling through fashion and previously revealed that the movie made her cry multiple times.
