Debi Mazar Says ‘Entourage’ Set Became ‘Toxic’ Toward the End

Actress Debi Mazar has spoken about her experience on Entourage, saying the HBO series’ set became increasingly difficult for her during its later seasons.

Mazar, who played Vincent Chase’s outspoken publicist Shauna Roberts, told the U.K.’s The Times that the first season was a positive experience. However, she said the atmosphere changed by the third season and became heavily male-dominated.

“Season one was a joy-fest. But in the third season, the set was a testosterone-fuelled environment,” Mazar said. “I’m tough, but it got toxic towards the end for me.”

Mazar also alleged that her appearance became an issue after she had her second child. She said producers were unhappy that she had gained weight after giving birth, although she later lost it again.

The actress said her outspoken personality also contributed to tensions on set, but maintained that she remained professional throughout her time on the show.

“It was a lot of fun, until it wasn’t,” she said.

Mazar previously described the Entourage set as “testosterone-driven and misogynistic” during a 2020 appearance on PeopleTV’s Couch Surfing. She also recalled feeling uncomfortable with some of the profanity and dialogue written for her character.

Entourage aired on HBO from 2004 to 2011 and won six Emmy Awards and a Golden Globe. Mazar returned as Shauna for the 2015 film adaptation.

The 62-year-old actress also said she has struggled to find work in recent years, particularly as an “ageing actress.”

Mazar is set to appear in The Housewife, which is scheduled to premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival. She also stars with Jennifer Lopez and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau in The Last Mrs. Parrish, which recently completed filming.
