Kat Dennings Recalls Six-Hour ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ Audition With Tom Hardy

Kat Dennings has recalled an unusual six-hour audition with Tom Hardy for the 2015 film Mad Max: Fury Road, describing the experience as one of the strangest auditions of her career.

In a video shared on Threads, Dennings said she took part in a chemistry read with Hardy to see how the two actors worked together. The audition included several unconventional exercises, including switching roles and performing lines without actually speaking them.

“Basically, what happened was, an acting class, if it was the worst day of your life,” Dennings said.

She said Hardy, who ultimately landed the role of Max, handled the exercises particularly well and was able to find creative ways to perform them.

The audition took a more personal turn after the session ended. Dennings said she did not have a car to get home, so Hardy offered her a ride. He drove her to her parents’ house, where she introduced him to her mother before going to take a nap.

When Dennings returned to the main house a few hours later, Hardy was still there, having tea and chatting with her mother.

The unexpected encounter left a lasting impression on Dennings. She said she remains a fan of Hardy and considers him a wonderful person. Her mother, she added, still talks about the actor.
