According to Click on Detroit, the incident happened around 11 p.m. as workers were walking toward a break near a ramp in a vehicle tunnel. Fire department dispatch audio described the incident as a “forklift injury accident.”
One injured crew member told the outlet he remained in the hospital overnight and was released Sunday. Another worker, who was struck in the chest, said the accident happened in “a split second.”
None of the injuries were life-threatening. Two workers suffered serious injuries, while four were listed in stable condition when they were transported to local hospitals.
Ford Field confirmed that one of the injured workers was a member of its team. The stadium said it has launched a full review and is cooperating with authorities and the event’s production partners.
“We will not speculate on the cause,” Ford Field said, adding that it was grateful to the Detroit Fire Department and EMS for their response.
The incident occurred shortly after Sheeran’s performance at the stadium. The following night, the singer made a surprise appearance at the Pokémon World Championships at San Francisco’s Chase Center, where he performed “Celestial” and an acoustic version of the original Pokémon theme song.
Sheeran’s tour is scheduled to continue Friday, Sept. 4, at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.
