Trump Says He Will Report NBC’s Kristen Welker to FCC

President Donald Trump said Sunday that he plans to report NBC News journalist Kristen Welker to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), accusing her of inaccurately describing his record of political endorsements.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump criticized Welker, the moderator of Meet the Press, after she said during an interview with Washington, D.C., NBC affiliate WRC-TV that Trump had achieved “some mixed results” with candidates he endorsed.

Trump argued that recent victories by his endorsed candidates, including South Carolina Senate candidate Darline Graham and former Oklahoma Sen. Mike Mazzei, demonstrated a stronger record. He said Welker should face “rebuke or punishment” from the FCC over what he called “purposeful inaccuracy.”

Trump also claimed that his endorsements have produced a 99% success rate overall and a 100% success rate in Senate races. He described his record as “the strongest Endorsement in the History of Politics.”

Welker’s comments came as she discussed the 2026 midterm elections. She noted that Trump would play a major role in the elections but said his endorsement record had recently seen setbacks.

An NBC News report published in August said Trump’s “near-sterling endorsement record” had taken a notable hit, citing six Republican candidates who had lost their campaigns. Among them was MyPillow founder Mike Lindell, who finished second in Minnesota’s Republican gubernatorial primary.

Graham won the Republican Senate primary runoff in South Carolina on Aug. 25, while Mazzei won the Republican gubernatorial runoff in Oklahoma the same day. Both had Trump’s endorsement.

The FCC says it has limited authority over complaints involving the accuracy or bias of news coverage. Although the agency accepts complaints alleging news distortion, it says it generally does not investigate claims involving “collateral inaccuracy” or disagreements over the truth or validity of statements in news programs.

Welker has not publicly responded to Trump’s attack. An NBC News spokesperson told PEOPLE, “Kristen is one of the best in the business, and we stand by her.”

Welker became moderator of Meet the Press in 2023, becoming the first Black journalist to lead a Sunday public affairs program and only the second woman to moderate the long-running NBC program.

Trump has previously criticized Welker directly. During a June interview on Meet the Press, he called her “crooked” before leaving the interview. Welker later said the criticism did not faze her, noting that she had covered Trump since his first presidential campaign.
